Jeremiah 7:29-34

Passage: Jeremiah 7:29-34
Service Type:

The LORD spoke to us from Jeremiah 7:29-34.  This was a continuation of His teaching last week in verse 29 where He spoke to us about repentance, the vow and commitment.  This time He spoke to us about the heart.  What is in our hearts leads us to do the things we do, Matthew 12:35.  In verse 30, the LORD spoke to us of Israel’s main problem.  They had set their abominations in the Holy of Holies, the Temple of God.  What was in the temple was the heart of their religion.  Though they declared the name of the LORD, they worshiped the idols of the heathen nations around them.  The LORD Jesus declared that you cannot serve two masters for in truth you will love one and hate the other.  They had an idol in the very holiest place in the Temple but yet they declared “the Temple of the LORD, the Temple of the LORD, and the Temple of the LORD”, and came and stood declaring that they were delivered by His grace to do the abominations.  The nation of Israel had descended into the deepest darkness of sin in their form of godliness even to the murdering of their children by sacrificing their own children to the false heathen god Molech in the most horrible way the burning their children on the iron crates in the hands of the idol.

The LORD is the same and so is His truth, yesterday, today and tomorrow Hebrews 13:8.  In Matthew 22:37, the first commandment is to love the LORD with ALL our hearts, All our soul and ALL our mind.  That leaves nothing.  In 1 John 2:15, we are told to love not the world, neither the things in the world.  If anyone love the world and the things that are in the world the love of the Father is not in them.  It was that way in Israel and it is that way today.  2 Timothy 3:1-5 declares that in the last days it will be perilous because men will be lovers of themselves and lovers of the pleasures of this world.  It is so today as the modern church has been compromised by the false teachings of the “Church Growth Movement”.  It is no longer the “Salt” that Jesus said we were to be.  The Church has been calling to the World to come and see that it has the pleasures of the world so that the heathens will come in.  The Church has become like the world instead of the world becoming like the Church the Body of Christ Jesus.
