Last Sunday the LORD spoke to us from His Word in John 19:8-11 communicating the mystery of the gospel. The Jewish leaders had brought Jesus to see Pilate, the Roman Governor over Israel at this time, with the express purpose of having the Romans carry out the sentence of death on Jesus which the Jewish leaders by Roman law could not do. Pilate finds himself in a politically correct predicament. He had taken Jesus and scourged Him for the purpose of getting a confession of wrong doing. Yet, Jesus did not confess to anything nor did He defend Himself. Jesus could have been set free because there was no evidence but He did not speak up because He came into the world for this mysterious time, Hebrews 10:4-10. Pilate tries to set Him free but he is trapped by the priests as they lead the people to call for Him to be crucified. Pilate must turn Him over to be crucified. This is the mystery of God that the princes of this world did not know because if they had known they would not have crucified Jesus, 1 Corinthians 2:7-8.
This mystery was foretold in Isaiah 53:7-11. In verse 10, we read He was an offering for sin, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. . .” John 1:29. In verse 10 we also read that “It was the pleasure of LORD.” Here is the mystery of “The pleasure of the LORD.” In Hebrews 12:1 we find Jesus “Endured the cross for the joy that was sat before Him.” The Joy was Romans 8:29 and Titus 2:14 that God could have a race of humans that were like Jesus.
Last, we see the mystery revealed. In verse 11 we read, “My righteous Servant shall justify many; for He shall bear their iniquities.” In Romans 4:24-25 the Mystery is completed. Jesus was delivered into the hands of the Romans for judgment, then crucified, buried and rose from the dead for our justification. This Mystery should be fully known by the disciples of Jesus that they can proclaim the Gospel to all that Jesus came into the world and went to the cross to save.
Next, the LORD spoke to us of the gospel, the good news. Because of the above Mystery, all sinful mankind can now be saved by the gift that God has provided through Jesus Christ, Romans 6:23 and 5:8-10. The Mystery in the gift is that the Father made Jesus Christ to be sin for us, who knew no sin that we might become the righteousness of God through Christ Jesus. The “might” is up to the individual if they will receive Christ Jesus as LORD and Savior John 1:12. When they do, He gives them the power of a new life, the miracle of the “New Birth” John 3:3-8. The “New Birth” miracle in true, when you receive Him and are Born Again, your life will change.
Study this, know this and go and make disciples, baptizing them . . . and teaching them all that Jesus taught.
