John 6:22-40 ~ June 12, 2011

The Message of the LORD was from John 6:22-40.  We only were able to get to three points of His message.

The first point was found in verse.27 where Jesus says that He has been sealed by the father, sealed to give the bread of eternal life.  This term of being sealed has the meaning of being authenticated as the only "agent" (if you will) authorized by the Father God to provide eternal Life or salvation.  The LORD spoke to us from this passage that today there is attack upon this truth from many sources.  There has always been the lie from the Catholic church saying that there is salvation through Mary.  But as we saw in 1 Timothy 2:5, “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;.  Christ Jesus is the only way as John14:6 declares, “I am the way, the life and the truth; no man cometh to the Father but by me.”  There is no other salvation but through the only agent that God the Father has authorized, Jesus Christ.

The LORD’s second point was found in verse 28.  Mankind wants to know what THEY can do to be saved.  They want to make themselves right so that they can come to God and say, “I am worthy.”  I have found this so prevalent among believers.  They tell me they hope they will be good enough or they know that God knows they have some things that they just can’t do, etc.  The truth is that, “All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23.   The glory of God is Jesus and our sin is that we are not like Him.  We are like the fallen “god of this world” 2 Corinthians 4:4, the devil.  “The wages of sin is death.” Romans 6:23.  We can never do enough good to be saved.  We are sinners.  The only hope for mankind is God’s savior, Jesus.  As the LORD showed us in the first point, Jesus is the only one authorized to give salvation to mankind.  We must always remember the way He did that.  Jesus is the Word of God who became man and took our place on the cross, receiving the punishment of our sin and giving us the righteousness for salvation Philippians.2:5-8, 2 Corinthians.5:21.

The third point was found in verse 29.  The only work that we are called to do is to “Believe.”  To believe is a verb, an action, not an intellectual process.  To believe is to follow the savior, a continuing action.  We are to follow Him in His Words, His teachings in which He says that we cannot do this without first being “Born of the Spirit” John 1:10-13, John 3:3-8.  Then we are to follow Him in learning or being discipled in His Church, following Him in baptism, this is a continuous action of life.  Verse 29 could be stated this way, “This is the work of God, that ye follow Him, believing Him (Jesus) whom He (God) has sent.”
