The LORD spoke to us last week from John 11:45-57 by His Spirit, through His Word.  The Lord  showed us the “Unpardonable Sin” so that we might understand and not be vulnerable to the devil’s attack.  The devil says that when we fall and sin, we have committed this horrible sin and it is cause to leave the fellowship of the LORD and go back into the world.  These Jews in verses 46-53 were the witness of what the Unpardonable sin is like.  They knew who Jesus was, the Son of God, the Messiah that was to come and they rejected Him. This is the Unpardonable sin, rejecting the witness of the Holy Spirit.

As Matthew 12:28 shows, it was the Holy Spirit of God that was witnessing the Life of God in Jesus and speaking through Him.  In 11verses 31-32 Jesus says to them and us whosoever rejects and speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven them in this world and the world to come.  It is certainly horrible to think that there are people like this but there are.  The LORD creates all mankind with a free will and the faith to be conformed to His Image, Jesus.  But many choose to reject this faith and decide to be conformed to this world which has the devil for a god, 2 Corinthians 4:4.  The LORD shows us this to exhort us to, “Be not conformed to the world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12:1-2

In verses 51-52, the LORD showed us the “propitiation” 1 John 2:1-2.  This means that Jesus did not give His life sacrificially only for the “elect”, the Church, the Body of Christ.  His Life was given to be “The sin barer and law satisfier” for the whole world.  The LORD gave the gift of salvation to the whole world, even for those that reject this gift.  What an awesome thing this is.  The world does not even know the magnitude of this gift.  It does not realize the reality of the horror of being sentenced to a living eternal hell, Luke 16:23-24.  The Christmas gift is about the gift of salvation from an eternal burning hell.  God so loved the world that He gave (sacrificed) His only begotten Son, Jesus.  He sacrificed Jesus to be born a body (Hebrews 10:5-9), to be given as the sacrifice upon the cross.  There He endured, in our place, the wrath of God upon mankind for sin.  This is the gift of God, this is the Propitiation, the Christmas.

Next, the LORD spoke to us about being in fellowship with Him in verse 54.  The scripture declares that Jesus “continued with the disciples.” As Jesus traveled, there were about 120 disciples that followed with Him.  There were the twelve, the seventy (Luke 10:1), and certain women that ministered unto Him and many others.  Most likely, the multitude that came to Him for healing such as the man that was called “Blind Bartimaeus” that was healed and now followed Him “In the Way” and the multitude that were fed with the few fish and loaves, Luke 8:1-3, followed also.  This is what Jesus and his Father want, that we would be “The Assembly.” That is what the Church means.  The LORD wants to gather together with Him, come out from the world and be separate from the world.  Be with the LORD.  Do you understand?
